A Canadian yerba mate brand from Montréal with one mission: making mate accessible outside South America. Matero means someone passionate about mate. Unidos means united. We're people who love mate, united. 🧉

What is yerba mate?

Yerba mate (pronounced "yer-ba ma-te," or "sher-ba" in Argentina and Uruguay) is a plant native to South America, deeply rooted in the cultures of Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina, and Brazil. Its leaves are dried and steeped into a drink sipped through a bombilla — a metal straw with a built-in filter. Part beverage, part ritual.

Indigenous Guaraní and Tupi peoples were the first to drink it. Spanish and Portuguese colonizers adopted it. Today it's consumed across South America and even the Middle East, in Lebanon, Syria, and beyond.

My first trip to Argentina introduced me to mate. The taste was strange at first. Then it became a passion. Now, while finishing my pharmacy degree, I run Materos Unidos as a side project: not just to sell yerba, but to connect people through it.
